Japan Chemical Industry Association (hereinafter referred to as "JCIA") has been promoting JCIA Long-range Research Initiative (LRI), a research support program that aims at responding to social needs related to chemical substances and at the resolution of urgent issues faced by chemical industries. LRI is an "international effort for the long-term support of researches on the impact of chemical substances on human health and the environment" which is jointly promoted in Japan, the U.S. and Europe at the initiative of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA). In the 4th term, JCIA LRI adopted 15 projects to entrust research (for details, please go to "List of Adopted Themes" at LRI website).
JCIA will welcome applications of research projects as follows for the 5th term that starts in March next year. Please understand the intent of the activity and apply for the program in accordance with the Guideline to applicants.

- Propose a research project that falls under any of the five research fields.
- For details, refer to the guideline to applicants
- Four or five themes will be adopted.
JCIA LRI Application of Research Project for the 5th Term
Qualification requirements

Generally no restriction on the nationality, organization, position, age, etc. for the principal investigator.

Research period

1 year.
A research project over years may be proposed, in which case the entire research project should be indicated. Whether the project may be continued will be reviewed every year.

Rough amount of expenses Up to approximately JPY 10,000,000 per year for each project.

Reference materials, if any
Email the electronic file of the reference materials.

ŸEmail electronic files (Windows version) of the above three documents and reference materials prepared as necessary to the secretariat. If the applicant sends us electronic media (such as CD-R and USB flash drive) because the size of the file is too large to send by email or for any other reason, the electronic media will not generally be returned to the applicant.

ŸIf the form cannot be signed by the "Manager" by the deadline, [1] Research Project Proposal (LRI Form 1-1) with the oral approval can be accepted as application document. In such case, state that gthe approval of the Manager has been obtained orallyh in the margin and promptly email the relevant page with the signature of the gManagerh affixed, on a later day.

Acceptance period October 28th - November 18th
Confirmation of receipt of application documents, etc.

After checking the application documents, etc. in the secretariat, an "Email Confirming Receipt of Application Documents, etc." will be sent to the principal investigator (if no such email is delivered by November 22, please contact us at the following email address).

Adoption
Notice of result

Result of adoption will be notified to the principal investigator by email or in writing (scheduled to be in early February). After adopted projects are fixed, the adopted research themes and the names of principal investigators will be announced in the website.

Execution of Agreement on Entrustment of Research

JCIA will enter into an "Agreement on Entrustment of Research" with the organization to which the principal investigator belongs, designating the principal investigator. JCIA will not execute an gAgreement on Entrustment of Researchh with an individual principal investigator. Relevant organization will be considered to have consented to the gAgreement on Entrustment of Researchh for the proposed research. If the organization is not able to execute the gAgreement on Entrustment of Researchh, the adoption may be revoked.

Deadline for submission of reports after adoption

Interim report to be submitted by August 31, 2017 Report of outcome to be submitted by March 31, 2018

Schedule of payment of research expenses

40% of the contracted amount to be paid by the end of the month immediately following the month in which the research entrustment commences.
40% of the contracted amount to be paid by the end of the month immediately following the month in which interim report is received.
20% of the contracted amount to be paid by the end of the month immediately following the month in which report of outcome is received.

Spending control of research expenses

Research expenses should be expended/controlled in accordance with the research project and "Statement of Research Expenses" should be submitted within 30 days of the termination of the research period.

Treatment of personal information Personal information will be treated in accordance with JCIA's standards.
